Abdulaziz Suleymanov

As your current First-Year Representative, I understand the needs and concerns of our UCLPS community. I am running for Welfare Officer since I want to ensure that no one feels excluded, all members get a chance to engage and participate regardless of their confidence and level of experience. In addition, I will ensure that our society remains free of any forms of discrimination, marginalisation, judgement, offensive behaviours, and language. This will allow our members to grow not only as speakers but also as people.

Leading group activities taught me the importance of being as approachable as possible during group sessions to ensure equal participation and giving a chance for everyone to develop. I will actively listen to feedback, check in with members to ensure everyone feels welcome and part of our brilliant community.

Approachability is important, because welfare is not just about support, but rather a sense of community where the skills, knowledge, and experience of all members can collide together and complement each other in a coherent manner.

Marvin Chiu

My name is Marvin Chiu. I would like to nominate myself for the position of Welfare Officer. I wish to contribute to the society’s mission to create an environment that is safe and supportive enough to allow every voice to grow irrespective of starting point, whereby every voice is heard and no one has to walk alone.

As the Director of Welfare for Student Council within HKUGA College, I was personally accountable for student welfare with initiatives such as negotiated student discounts that showed concern and commitment.

Also, volunteering with the HK Federation of Youth Groups involved teaching the elderly to use digital devices and taking care of the children. Patience and the capacity to make people feel comfortable are essential qualities needed in such activities.

Leading as the HK U18 Baseball Team Captain has taught me that a team's success is built on the well-being of each member. I’ve learned to listen, motivate, and foster a resilient and trusting environment, exactly the kind of atmosphere that helps people overcome the fear of public speaking.

I am organised, approachable, and deeply committed to the well-being of every member. Vote for a representative who cares deeply about the person behind the speaker. Vote for Marvin Chiu for Welfare Officer. Let’s build a community where everyone feels empowered to speak up.
