Hey everyone! I’m Dhruv, and I’m a fourth-year physics student.
In my time at UCL, it’s been awesome to see my fellow students develop and grow as people. Some of the most important things in life include coming together as a community and maintaining a healthy work-life balance and I want this for our society, motivating me to run for social secretary!
In my opinion, this society excels in its academics. The panels and the talks that are offered to students, for free nonetheless, are commendable and the committee has done brilliantly in securing these opportunities for us. However, we can’t have all work and no play! Our next steps should be to increase the social aspects of the society. As social secretary, I'd push to increase the frequency of our social events, holding biweekly pub socials, board game nights 5-6 times a term, and much more! I'd also push to hold polls to take suggestions for our events, truly encouraging a sense of community and family within the society!
I’ve helped out extensively with the society over the past years, having been social secretary on last years committee and having hosted pub socials, quizzes, and more, giving me a deep appreciation of the need for a strong team, the need of decisive leadership, and of course, the need of a good pint at the end of all it! As social secretary, I'd strive to bring these qualities to the committee.
Thank you all very much for your time, consideration, and vote, I look forward to serving our society well!
I'm running for Social Secretary because I enjoy organising events and I'm good at it. As Treasurer of the Habesha Society, I handle budgets, book venues, and deal with logistics. I've learnt which events work and how to make things happen instead of staying as ideas in a group chat.
Here's what I want to do. Weekly coffee sessions in the physics building where you can work through problem sheets with people or just procrastinate together. Termly events that are worth going to: physics pub quizzes, trips to UCL's observatory, joint socials with maths and engineering. Study groups before exams where you can actually get help and not feel completely alone during revision. Speaker dinners with researchers and alumni where you can ask questions without the formal lecture hall atmosphere.
I care about accessibility. Not everyone drinks or has money for expensive socials. From tutoring at UCL Accelerate, I've learnt to figure out what people need. I'll ensure free events, non-drinking options, and variety so you'll find something you want to attend monthly.
I'm organized, I follow through on commitments, and I know how to delegate without everything falling apart. My experience with society finances and committees means I understand the boring practical stuff: budgets, timelines, actually getting people to show up. Vote Alessandro for Social Secretary.
Hi all,
I'm running for social secretary because Tom and Hugo have had to go without a full commitee for far too long, and honestly I'm a little scared no-one else will run (again). They deserve better!
I have plenty of ideas for socials bouncing around, but my main goal is to make sure they reflect what you all actually like! So probably some light surveys and asking around for feedback. And ofc some great socials! (if you vote for me <3)
I did write this 5 minutes to the deadline, but, I mean, vote for me anyways?
Hope you enjoy the blurry picture of me :)
