What I would do as Social Secretary:

  • Organise more collabs with other societies ! I am also on the Writer's Soc and Kinesis Magazine committees and have helped with collaborations for both. I LOVE COLLABS, especially when they're with societies you might not think of, and when they do something unique.
  • Collaborate with individuals and groups off-campus. There are so many incredible conservation and nature groups in London: organising to attend their events, volunteer with them, or have them come to us would be a top priority.
  • Visits to nearby rewilding sites, such as the Hogsmill River, Tolworth, etc (and maybe even outside London, if possible).
  • Promote more opportunities, especially those connected to local conservation and community efforts.
  • Emphasise the intersectionality of conservation and the restoration of nature with other struggles.

What experiences I have:

  • I'm currently organising an ecology walk and poetry workshop in my hometown with support from Kew's Grow Wild. I love combining nature, science, and creativity. For me, that's through poetry and photography - but I would love to explore more mediums as Social Sec too.
  • 2nd year Biological Sciences, hoping to go into conservation.
  • I attend a lot of events and workshops by different conservation groups and collectives, and would use these connections for organising collaborations.!
Tristan Edwards

Hi everyone, I am Tristan, your neighbourhood fungus lover! I want to be the social secretary for the nature and conservation society because I believe the society has great potential for fun, casual meet-ups. An occasional pub social, meet-ups to build insect hotels, or an expedition to Epping Forest would be amazing for this society to try! A trip to Epping Forest would offer us the opportunity to discover all sorts of organisms not able to be seen in central London, and for fungus lovers similar to myself, autumn is the perfect time! With me as social secretary, events like this can be put in motion.  I would also like to try some inter-society events, for example, collaborations with the urban farming society (of which I am a member), since they are also very active in maintaining biodiversity and have a plot of land where we could let our creativity roam free! I am very committed to developing more events for members to get together. If I am elected, I promise I will not disappoint.
