Hi! My name is Athena, and I'm running to be one of your Technical Officers this academic year :)
It goes without saying that, if elected, I will put in my best effort to work alongside Ronan to ensure the smooth running of all events and gigs, but an aspect of this position that particularly stands out to me is the opportunity to facilitate a more thorough understanding and appreciation of the technical side of music. As both a musician and a crew member, I hope to bridge the gap between the two and create an environment where everyone feels more comfortable engaging with the equipment they use onstage, a factor I believe is fundamental to musical growth. This will be done by continuing last year’s technical workshops, but with greater consistency and covering a wider range of skills (we might even see an LM x Stagecrew collaboration, yay!!)
vote for me <33 I'll make everyone sound great (even at Mully's)
Even before coming to UCL, I have already spent so much of my life organising music events. In my last school, I ran open mic nights, I setup a leavers pop band, and I ran 3 bands on the side for fun. I've spent hours upon hours scheduling rehearsals, carrying equipment, and untangling leads and cables. But it's all been worth it to get live music out there.
This side of live music is not always the most fun, but I love doing it anyway, and I'm determined to enable as many opportunities as possible. As your tech officer I promise I’ll:
- Make sure every gig runs smoothly with sound and equipment, providing a reliable and stress-free atmosphere for performers.
- Help make pre-gig soundchecks more efficient and productive, so we can get the most out of the time available.
- Work with the committee to invest in Bluetooth sound systems, giving more flexibility in the SPR and for individual performers at gigs.
- Be hands-on for setup and pack-down at every gig I can, ensuring you always have support before, during, and after each performance.
- Listen – forms after gigs with feedback or requests for equipment to continually improve our setup.
Live Music at UCL deserves a setup to match its talent. I'll bring the energy, commitment, and obsessive cable management that has served me in the past to bring that setup to UCL.
