I nominate myself for the Treasurer position at the UCL Genetics Society with my background in genetics research and organisational experience.
As President of the Turkish High School Science Symposium, I managed a 20-member team, coordinated international partnerships, such as the University of Rochester, and managed event logistics for 100+ attendees. My work as Co-Founder of @biliminucundalise (science community on IG under @biliminucunda with 700k+ followers) involved organising collaborations.
Building on my previous experiences, I hope to provide both transparent and efficient economic management to support the society's events and initiatives. I will help expand event funding, seek partnerships with biotech companies, and distribute resources toward seminars and workshops to make genetics more accessible to our university community.
I'm standing for Treasurer because I’m passionate about genetics and want to help our society to grow into an engaging community for likeminded people. I believe being part of this society is beyond sharing an academic interest, it's about creating opportunities for members to connect, learn and share experiences and I’d love to contribute to this goal.
I will bring organisational and financial skills to the society from my experience as Deputy Head Girl back in secondary school, where I often managed budgets and planned large school events such as Girls’ Night In and International Day. These events have taught me how to handle and distribute finance responsibly and ensure every budget is meaningful and well executed.
As a treasure I’ll make sure our finances are transparent and efficient, ensuring funds support a wide range of activities; from academic talk, to panel discussions and networking events. My goal is to help the society run smoothly and make the most out of our resources to create a memorable experience for all.
I’m very excited about this opportunity to work with an amazing team. Thank you for considering me for the Treasurer :D!
Hi, my name is Minyoung, and I’m a third-year Biological Sciences student on the Computational Biology route.
I am currently serving as the interim Treasurer and am running for the official position this year. Having been a member of the Genetics Society since my first year, and with previous experience as a Treasurer for another society, I’m eager to continue supporting the society’s growth and activities.
So far, I’ve secured an additional £165 in SU grant funding to support transport for our speaker events and am working to obtain more. I’m also reaching out to potential sponsors for upcoming events, and have already secured one for the PhD & Pizza event, while supporting the committee and president in running events smoothly.
My goals are to strengthen financial stability, expand funding, and make events more engaging and accessible. I plan to apply for larger grants to fund speaker panels, workshops, and socials connecting undergraduates, postgraduates, and researchers. I also aim to maintain a transparent budgeting system so all committee members can easily track spending and collaborate efficiently.
Above all, I’ll ensure our events remain inclusive, well-organised, and fun. Whether casual socials or academic discussions, I’ll make sure every event is financially supported and smoothly executed. As Treasurer, I’ll work closely with the president and committee to keep the Genetics Society a welcoming and inspiring community for everyone interested in genetics.
Thank you :)
