The feeling of taking up a new sport: we all know it very well.
There are countless questions you want answered, things you need clarified before committing, but you're cautious to not annoy the committee members too much.
Here's where I come in: I'm running to be the approachable member that you can always annoy.
When I joined the club, I too had my share of questions to ask. In fact, I ended up asking so much that the President knew my name before my first fencing session!
Pair this with being a commuter, and it's safe to say that I truly know what each beginner goes through at our club.
As your Novice Representative, all new fencers will be seamlessly integrated into our club.
From being on-demand to answer any and all questions to helping fit a mask for the very first time, I aspire for each and every Novice Fencer to enjoy the same introduction to fencing as I did. It's only right I pass this favour forward!
It's also my duty to ensure each fencer has the opportunity to not only acquire new skills but to master them and, by working with our spectacular Coach (with whom I have an incredible connection with), everyone should leave each session with new abilities on the piste!
I'll run regular feedback forms and catch-up with members to raise concerns, as beginner wellbeing is my priority.
With experience in school committee boards to leadership in national organisations, granting me your vote ensures exemplary representation of your voice at the club's committee and beyond!
As a member of novice class at the UCL Fencing Club and a fellow beginner deeply familiar with the challenges of starting fencing—from gripping the epee for the first time to navigating training routines—I aim to ensure every new member feels supported, included, and excited to grow.
If elected, I will bridge the gap between novices and the club, simplify entry into fencing, and create a welcoming space for skill-building. I plan to organize weekly "novice check-ins" to address questions and share tips, launch a beginner-friendly resource hub (with basics like gear guides and training notes), and host inclusive practice sessions and social events to build a connected, encouraging fencing community where every new fencer can gain confidence, enjoy the sport, and thrive alongside peers.
I’m not just a representative, but a fellow novice who listens, connects, and takes action for your fencing journey. From fumbling with my first epee grip to navigating training drills, I’ve stood for turning newbies’ struggles into shared wins—no jargon, no exclusion, just real support.
I’ll voice the needs of every beginner to the club, making fencing feel accessible, fun, and less daunting. I’ll push for more novice-friendly practice time, clear gear guides, and casual sessions to build confidence together.
Together, we’ll build a united, and inspiring fencing community—where every fumble is a step forward, every question gets answered, and every new fencer feels proud to pick up their sword.
