Marielena Kyriacou

I’m standing for First Year Representative in the Diplomacy society because I want to help this community be more than just a place to learn about international relations, I want it to be a space where people's curiosity can meet action and interest. Growing up in Europe's only divided capital, themes of political division, diplomatic relations and post-colonialism surrounded my everyday life. Seeing first-hand how dialogue, negotiation and understanding can shape societies, I’m excited to bring the idea of bridging divisions and different perspectives to UCL. I want to help organise events, simulations and discussions that make diplomacy tangible, thus inspiring students to explore global issues creatively and collaboratively.

Being involved in the European Youth Parliament and presiding in MUNs/Model Parliaments, I’ve learned how to lead a group, communicate ideas effectively, coordinate projects and bring people together. I enjoy turning big concepts into hands-on, engaging experiences, whether that’s through interactive debates, workshops, or informal socials where everyone feels welcome.

If elected, I’ll make sure first-year voices are heard, helping shape a society that’s dynamic, inclusive, and a place where students not only learn about diplomacy but practice it, experiment with ideas and connect with peers who share the same curiosity about the world. I want to contribute to a community that challenges us, inspires us, and makes our time at UCL unforgettable.

Corinna Del Gaudio

Hi everyone! I’m Corinna, a first-year BASc Arts and Sciences student, and I’d like to nominate myself for the role of First-Year Representative.

As your representative, I’d aim to ensure every first-year student feels included, supported, and inspired to get involved. I want to create an engaging environment where we can all feel confident exploring our shared interests in diplomacy. I'd actively seek feedback from first-years to understand their interests and work closely with the committee to organise diverse, accessible events so there’s truly something for everyone.

As Co-Leader of my school’s Global Issues Network (G.I.N.) Club, I planned and hosted community events with students, parents, staff, and guest speakers. These included SWAP-PARTYs promoting circular fashion, workshops on resource conservation, panel discussions on gender-based violence, and debates on political issues, all designed to encourage participation and open dialogue. These experiences strengthened my communication, teamwork, and organisational skills, which I believe would be valuable in this role.

I’m excited to represent our year group, contribute innovative ideas, and help make the Diplomacy Society a welcoming, active, and inspiring community for all!

Joshua Mathew

I have always taken a very keen interest in international affairs. Being a fresher at UCL, I understand the challenges of committing time to a society, and to meeting new people. In standing for this position I want to make the Diplomacy Society as well catered to First Years as possible, whilst engaging with my passion; Diplomacy!
