I live for a good challenge, especially the kind that involves strategy, teamwork, and a tiny bit of chaos (or sometimes just waking up). I’ve already thrown myself into case competitions and business games, so I know what it takes to turn late-night brainstorming into actual winning ideas.
As Competitions Rep, I want to help more first-years discover how fun and rewarding these events can be, whether they’re future consultants, analysts, or just competitive for no reason. I’ll work to bring in exciting new opportunities, make participation feel less intimidating, and create a culture where everyone wants to get involved. Basically, I’ll make sure the Business Society members aren't just watching competitions happen, they're winning them.
And let’s be honest, nothing unites people like the chaos of a 10-minute pitch deck deadline. I’ll make sure our first-year teams walk into every competition confident, creative, and just the right amount of over-caffeinated to take home a win (and maybe a LinkedIn flex or two).
Competitions are where ambition becomes action, and I have always been driven by that spark. I’m standing for First Year Rep - Competition because I want to make sure every student in our Business Society not only participates, but thrives in competitive arenas that challenge creativity, logic, and leadership.
As a Social Science and Data Science student, I bridge analytical precision with human understanding, which is the same balance that defines great competitors. In addition, I was recently awarded first place at the DECA Championship in the Entrepreneurship category, an experience that taught me how strategy, teamwork, and calculated risk-taking turn ideas into achievements.
Before university, I led as Head Boy, Head of Media for Model United Nations, and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of my school magazine. These positions shaped my ability to motivate teams and manage projects under tight deadlines. I know what it means to prepare, compete, and win, but more importantly, I know how to help others do the same.
My vision is to create a culture of confidence: accessible training sessions, mock competitions, and mentorship programs that prepare our members to strive nationally and internationally. My vision is to turn our Business Society into a powerhouse of competitive excellence.
Together, we will set the standard, showcase our talent, and make our Society the team everyone wants to beat!
Competition has always been where I feel most alive — where ideas, logic, and teamwork collide under pressure. That’s exactly why I’m standing for First Year Representative (Competitions) at UCL Business Society.
In the past few years, I have been in many national business pitch competitions and always placed within the top ranks. From these experiences, I learned how to dissect issues at pace, develop compelling answers and deliver results in short timelines. I have experience working with teams of all types and sizes, balancing opposing viewpoints and finding the balance between creativity and strategy - skills that translate seamlessly to running large competitions such as Business society's flagship event - DECA Case championship and other competitions like AmplifyMe.
I don't just love to compete, but I also love making chances for others to compete. I want to help plan events that push people, get them working together, and give them that same great feeling I get on competition day. I'm driven, organised, and love to win, so I'll be sure our team is the best this year and gets everyone involved.
My name is Marvin Chiu, and I’m running to be your First Year Representative for Competitions. As someone who has participated in the UCL DECA Case Championship, I know the huge benefit that these activities provide to all who take part. But more importantly, activities such as these need people who are passionate about them with exceptional networking qualities to build them.
As U18 Baseball Team Captain, I am responsible for analysing performance, developing personalised training plans, and leading my team in high-pressure international tournaments. This has ingrained in me the logistical precision and leadership required to host large-scale events and motivate participants to develop their skills.
My experience with Brex involved handling an important efficiency project with an implacable deadline that required utmost organisation and attention to detail—just like what is required to identify judges to scout, manage partnerships, and execute an event successfully.
As Student Council Director of Welfare, I successfully negotiated with major companies and collaborated across teams, proving my strong communication abilities and knack for forming valuable new connections with external professionals.
Vote for a representative with a proven record of leadership and execution. Vote for Marvin Chiu for First Year Rep - Competitions. Let's compete, connect, and grow together.
I’m running for the position of First Year Representative for Competitions because I want to help create challenging and engaging experiences that bring out the best in students. Competitions are central to what makes the Business Society lively. They promote teamwork, innovation, and critical thinking. I’m excited to contribute by designing, organizing, and delivering competitions that are professional and inspiring.
As First Year Representative, I’ll support the entire process, from planning competition formats and coordinating logistics to managing communication with participants. I want to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day of the event. I take pride in being organized, detail-oriented, and reliable. I believe these traits are crucial for meeting deadlines, managing resources, and working with different teams.
I also want to make competitions more accessible and enjoyable for first-year students. I plan to gather feedback, introduce new ideas, and ensure every event feels inclusive and rewarding. Whether it’s a case study challenge, pitching event, or business simulation, I’ll focus on creating opportunities that encourage students to think strategically and work creatively.
In the end, I’m running because I believe competitions are where learning, leadership, and collaboration come together. With dedication and attention to detail, I aim to help the Business Society host competitions that test skills and inspire confidence and curiosity in every participant.
