Hi everyone! For me, building strong relationships isn’t just about networking, it is about listening to people's needs and turning connections into meaningful action. That’s why I’m standing for First Year Rep – Client Relations: to make sure every opportunity for collaboration, partnership, and growth is fully realized for our society.
As a Social Science and Data Science student, I bring both analytical insight and human understanding. I can identify trends and translate them into practical strategies that benefit the society and its members. My leadership experience as Head Boy, Organizer of Model United Nations, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of my school magazine has taught me how to communicate effectively and deliver tangible results.
If elected, I will:
- Build stronger partnerships with companies, startups, and alumni to create real-world opportunities.
- Launch structured mentorship and networking programs to connect members with clients and industry professionals.
- Ensure transparent communication between the society, its members, and external partners.
- Develop tools to track and maximize the impact of our client engagement initiatives.
I don’t just want to represent our members, but empower them to shine, creating a culture of collaboration and professional growth!
Vote Rustam for strategy, connection, and action that delivers results!
My name is Marvin Chiu, and I am running to be your First Year Representative for Client Relations. This role is the engine of our society's growth, and I have the proven resourcefulness and professional skills to secure the partnerships that benefit every single member.
The Client Relations team looks for individuals who are resilient, proactive, and can act decisively. My experience is a direct match:
At Brex, I assessed competitive landscapes and pitched strategic recommendations to senior leaders, honing the communication and professionalism needed to engage potential sponsors and 'close the deal'.
As Director of Welfare in Student Council, I was able to negotiate and obtain benefits from Casetify and other major brands without them needing to provide cash benefits to us; that shows the very qualities that you mention above.
My role as U18 Team Captain has built my resilience and ability to make high-stakes decisions under pressure, ensuring I can be trusted to act in society's best interests.
Vote for a representative with a track record of building relationships and delivering results. Vote for Marvin Chiu for First Year Rep - Client Relations. Let’s build powerful partnerships together.
I am standing for the First-Year Representative – Client Relations position because I want to contribute to strengthening the connection between the UCL Business Society, its corporate partners, and the first-year student community. As the Course Representative for Information Management for Business, I have been actively representing my cohort, ensuring that student voices are heard and communicated effectively to the department. This experience has helped me develop strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills that are directly relevant to building and maintaining client relationships.
In addition, as a Mentor in the UCL Foundation Year Mentorship Programme, I have supported incoming students through their transition to university life, which has further enhanced my ability to engage with people, understand their needs, and create a positive and inclusive environment.
My previous internships at Fibabanka, Messe Stuttgart Ares, and Ticimax have provided me with first-hand experience in marketing, digital engagement, and data-driven client relations. These opportunities taught me how professional relationships are built and sustained through trust, collaboration, and innovation — principles I would apply in this role.
I am passionate about business, technology, and digital transformation, and I see this position as a unique opportunity to connect students with industry leaders, foster meaningful partnerships, and contribute to the society’s growth and impact at UCL.
I am standing for client relations rep at the UCL business society as I strongly believe I am a good fit for this position! Having already been an active member of UCL business society, whilst I am impressed by the quality and organisation of the events and connections with professional clients, I’m also optimistic about how I can apply my skills, experience and connections to further broaden the connections and client relations of the business society.
Some experiences which make me well equipped for this role include, been a part of public speaking societies and having worked in a costumer facing role for 6 months now. These experiences have improved my confidence and communication, making me better at connecting with professionals and developing meaningful relationships with potential clients. Having also spent time doing summer program internships at PwC and XpertiseNow, I have not only gained a large network but I’ve also grasped a greater understanding of how to communicate and collaborate in a professional manner, making me more equipped to manage client relations professionally.
Finally, having lead a number of societies. This includes academic societies (e.g. investment society & finance society), sports teams(e.g. football and 2nd basketball team captains), and service groups (e.g. junior science & Bombay street kids). These experiences honed in my leadership, collaboration and organisation skills, improving my ability to organise and manage client relations.
Client relations to business is what oxygen is to the human body - essential for survival. Without meaningful and rigid relationships, even the most innovative ideas struggle to breathe. For this reason, I stand as a nominee for the Business Society's FYR in Client Relations to amplify and expand on the connections that give the society life, whether that be between firms, students, or the wider UCL network.
As lead consultant for The Astrid Group, my responsibility was to work directly with clients across a diverse mix of 6 industries, refining relationships that required strategic thinking and, perhaps more importantly, emotional intelligence. This experience gave me the skills to deliver reliably, communicate early and effectively, as well as represent my organisation with confidence - allowing me to anticipate and understand client needs before they were even voiced. I thus believe that client relations is more than just meetings and friendly emails; it is more about making people feel genuinely valued by maintaining trust and accountability.
Before UCL, my experiences as Head Boy and Student President honed my ability to navigate through differing expectations and needs, hosting high-stakes discussions, and transforming communication into collaboration that pleases all stakeholders - key strengths that underpin strong client relations. I promise to be the best bridge between first years and the Business Society, building lasting and mutually beneficial relationships!
