I am excited to apply for the External Officer position within the Stage Crew society. This role’s focus on coordinating external shows is highly appealing to me, as it combines my interest in event management with my passion for contributing to Stage Crew’s growth and reputation.
I am particularly drawn to this position because it allows me to use my skills in organization, communication, and strategic decision-making. I understand the importance of assessing each show request carefully, considering both our team’s capacity and our standards for quality. My goal as External Officer would be to ensure that Stage Crew engages in external events that align with our capabilities and values, contributing positively to both the society and the wider community.
Additionally, I am committed to fostering a strong relationship between Stage Crew and its external partners. Clear communication and well-defined expectations are essential to delivering successful events, and I am confident in my ability to facilitate this as External Officer. My approach would include creating efficient processes for evaluating requests and coordinating with external clients to ensure a seamless collaboration. Overall, I believe my enthusiasm for the role, along with my skills in organization and communication, would make me an asset to the Stage Crew society. I am eager to help represent Stage Crew in the best possible way and to contribute to its ongoing success through this position.
Hello :) My name is Hannah. I have worked in a variety of shows both externals and in Bloomsbury theatre. My focus is in Sound, Set and Stage management.
External shows can be an excellent way for students to experiment with theatre, transforming empty classrooms to a stage. They are also brilliant for visiting different venues outside UCL and for students with less experience or less time availability to get involved in the Stage Crew Society. I believe they can be made extremely sociable; a great way to build friendships across the society and the larger UCL network. They are also very useful for those wanting roles in Bloomsbury Theatre productions to gain experiences, as well as students who want a bit of a break from Blooms!
If elected, I would prioritise
- Accessibility – I aim to support those who may struggle to access the theatre due to disability, experience, confidence, etc. As part of my role, I would collaborate with the Social Secretary to organise workshops around theatre skills and discussions of what theatre is or can be.
- Communication - I will have good time management skills, be present, listen and support a wide range of people to put on shows.
- Teaching and learning – I would push using externals as a platform to support Stage Crew members in teaching each other and sharing knowledge. We might work with the Externals Officer to look at equipment stage crew uses.
I hope you will consider me as one of your external officers for this year.
Hello there!
I am standing for Externals Officer as I really enjoy collaborating with various societies and putting on exciting shows! Externals have been a wonderful opportunity for me to work with talented people and make friends. I would love to take on the responsibility of running these shows and establish a thriving environment for everyone to build positive relationships.
As an Externals Officer I will ensure clear communication between Stage Crew Society and the performing societies, and make sure get-ins go smoothly (especially on one day shows). I will also prioritise the wellbeing of everyone working on the show and make sure all crew are having a good time.
I look forwards to working with you all!
I'd like to be more involved in the society. I'm very organised. I love a challenge. I want to help.
I think I've been reasonably committed to stage crew for a fresher, so far:
- I'm Audiovisual on shrek
- I'm Lighting designer on Be more chill
- Done 1 external with dancesoc
- Had 14 hours of training during reading week)
I have lots of contact with many other societies that *cough cough* may or may not need external help (Graters, Shakespeare, Taylor Swift, TEDx to name a few)
I might be useful.

I am running for the position of Externals Officer because I am deeply passionate about stage crew and theatre, and I believe I have the experience to make a significant contribution. Having led the stage crew, as president, at my last school, I’m well-versed in managing teams, ensuring smooth communication, and coordinating the technical side of productions. Which is all to say, I understand just how stressful but equally rewarding this job is!
No matter your experience, an external show is a great way to get involved with theatre. It's such an exciting thing to get involved, but also scary if you're new at putting on shows which is why I would absolutely love to make the transition as easy as possible as an external officer.
Over the years, I’ve worked with diverse theatre setups—from large-scale musicals like Aladdin and The Lion King to smaller, more intimate events such as drag shows and pride events. This past summer, I worked with a local stage crew, handling sound design and lighting, which broadened my experience and honed my ability to adapt to different event requirements.
One of my proudest achievements was managing sound for a junior production of The Lion King, which required the challenging use of radio mics. 10 year olds and radio mics do not mix at all, which is just some of the intelligent insights I could lend as an externals officer! Additionally, I’ve sound- and light-designed for major dance shows, balancing multiple cues and set changes.
My passion lies in sound design, but I also have
