Vanrika Satyan

As an international relations major, I recently returned from Beijing with a firsthand awareness of how art operates as a universal language. I see makeup- not just as a form of art, but as a powerful tool for identity, resistance, and political expression. With experience as the Chief Editor in high school and my background writing for two think tanks, I bring the skills to create a platform that is bold and meaningful. I want to curate our publication so that every look, every article, and every discussion invites members to think critically about how makeup shapes, and is shaped by, our political and social worlds.

One of my main goals is to host a society-wide competition that challenges participants to create makeup looks inspired by historically significant events or political moments. Imagine reinterpreting the defiant punk black or reclaiming the suffragette red.

I want spaces for members to explore these ideas through writing retreats. Imagine being at a lakeside reflecting each of our experiences into words together. I hope to help build a supportive community where our members can explore makeup’s role in their own identities, finding connections between self-expression and social change.

As Chief Editor, I will be dedicated to building a Makeup Society that is not only visually striking but politically and socially engaged—a society where makeup is seen and celebrated as both art and action.
