I am standing for Life Sciences first-year representative to serve as the voice for first-year students, and communicate the concerns and challenges students may face at UCL. Moving to London as an international student is not easy; it takes a large toll on people to be so far away from home. I can relate to the large student body who come from overseas, making me a good candidate for this role. Creating a welcoming environment for all new students would definitely be a key priority for me, and this could be done in collaboration with other societies to bring the whole cohort closer together, helping each other navigate through issues inside and out of the lecture hall.
I also believe there is a lot of opportunity outside the classroom in CV building and super-curricular activities which may be difficult to access. I aim to help make these opportunities more transparent to students so first-years can start to develop a strong portfolio which can be built on in the more critical years ahead. Exposing people to a wide variety of niches within the field of Life Sciences help people differentiate from each other, clarifying potential future sub-disciplines within this large field of science.
I aim to support the main committee with organising activities and events to help the year 1s gain more information to apply for more opportunities to build their CVs to attain their desired internships in their further years of study. I also would love to facilitate more speedfriending events for year 1s to feel more bonded to the club itself.
