I’m interested in becoming an Events Officer for the Intellectual Property Society, because I love fashion, music, and art and intellectual property is an important part of all creative work. For law students, IP is only available as an optional module in fourth year, but I’m really drawn to the subject now, and the way it protects creatives whilst boosting innovation - and that’s why I want to get more hands-on involvement with the society.

I have solid event-planning experience from my time volunteering with The Diana Award, where I organised activities to support underprivileged secondary school students exploring pathways to higher education. This experience has taught me a lot about adapting presentations to engage my audience, working with students from different backgrounds and with different abilities, and ensuring that everyone who attends the event leaves knowing something new.

In this role, I would aim to organise events that are valuable to students like myself who are interested in, or just curious about, IP. I think there is a lot of potential for everything from industry talks with graduates, to workshops on topics like copyright in entertainment, and I’d love to bring those ideas to life.

I’m looking forward to hopefully working together to create something great for the society!

Hi, I’m Sara! and I am running to be your next Events Officer.
As a Chemistry student interested in the field of intellectual property, I believe more career-orientated events and networking opportunities, particularly for those with a STEM or non-law background like myself, will be a perfect way for all members to learn more about IP.
In addition, I aim to organise more social events throughout the year for our society’s members, creating a supportive and engaging space for everyone. I am eager to make an impactful contribution to this society by taking into account each of your various interests. If elected, I will ensure we can each take something valuable from our society’s events, whether that’s professional connections, greater knowledge on intellectual property, or simply new friendships.
