Dear Diplomacy Society,

My name is Emma Vidal de Saintignon and I am running for the position of Head of Events.  

As a second-year student in Politics and International Relations, and as an aspiring diplomat, I am deeply passionate about sharing the positive impact that skilled diplomacy can have on global politics. I believe that we are at a time of fracture in international relations, which makes it even more important for UCL students to have an outlet in which they can engage with current issues without the biases and stress of mainstream media.

Being part of the Diplomacy society as a member for over a year and having participated in many events has given me a strong sense of the expectations members have as to the quality and content of events. 

As a head of event, I would make sure to organise a large variety of events to give members insight as to the diverse career paths available in diplomacy. Today’s political landscape offers exciting and innovative opportunities, from geopolitical foresight to roles focused on technology and environmental issues- fields that may interest first- and second-year students as they start considering internships and refining their academic and career goals. 

Some of the events I found most inspiring from last year, and that I would like to build upon, were those targeted at developing skillsets. I would develop this by organising workshops with professionals to teach us about a particular skillset, whether it be speech, critical thinking, or analytical methods.
