Dear UCL Debate Society Members,
I'm running for training officer in the hope of giving back to the society . With years of experience as a competitor and coach, I’m ready to take on this role and ensure we make the most of the upcoming year. Here’s what I'm hoping to bring to the society:
My Experience:
Competition Background: I’ve been fortunate to have some significant achievements in the debating world, and in the last year alone I’ve won several tournaments including Exeter Open and UCL's own Presidents Cup. In addition to reaching the grand finals in a wide array of tournaments, such as most recently the Ghanaian universities KNUST Open. The highlight so far has been making it to the quarterfinals of Uhuru Worlds, the largest debate tournament ever. Where I was so exhausted I managed to fall asleep before the round and completely miss it. I've done every level from getting crushed in majors outrounds by world champions, to accidentally debating the wrong side of the motion at UCL practice.
Coaching Experience: Beyond competing, I’m passionate about coaching and have a track record to back it up. I currently help train the Swiss World Schools national team, preparing them for high-level international competitions. I’ve also coached at both school and university levels in the past, tailoring my methods to suit different skill levels and needs and so already come with a large backload of coaching materials.
Plans and Promises for the Role:
In-Depth Training and Themed Sessions: I plan to introduce more
