Debating Society: First-Year Representative

Hi everyone!

I am standing for first-year representative because I love debating and I want to help everyone enjoy and benefit from this amazing society. I’m excited to contribute and make a positive impact so that we all have the best experience possible.

If elected, I will fulfil the following promises:

1. welcoming and accessible space for all 

   whether you have never done debating before or an EFL speaker, I’ll make sure the society is inclusive and enjoyable for everyone

2. deliver on your ideas 

   “your voice, just louder”-I’ll work to make sure your ideas are heard and responded to quickly.

3. help you improve your skills and confidence

   from weekly sessions to competitions, I’ll make sure everyone gains something useful to boost their debating and public speaking skills

Why I’m a good fit for this role:

1. I think I’m a decent representative

   I’ve represented my boarding house in the school council and fought hard for their ideas and interests.

2. I know what it is like to be completely new to debate and the fear of public speaking 

   with zero natural talent for debate, it took me months before I could speak for 5 minutes straight – so I get the struggles

3. I have experience coaching debate at my school 

   despite my shocking lack of skill and experience, I’ve managed to coach others at my school, and I’d love to share a few tips (hopefully useful ones!).

I would like to run for first year representative because I am passionate about debate and want to help make it enjoyable for everyone.
