I would love to learn more about all of the gear and kit while being able to lend a helping hand with the club!

Yi Ping Huang

Hi! I’m Yi; I’ve been climbing for 4 years but my skill level is definitely not proportional to how long I’ve been climbing.

I’m applying for assistant gear secretary to be able to help out members who are less knowledgable about climbing gear and generally to nerd out with other members of the society, (especially about shoes!)

I think it’s amazing that the society provides a majority of the gear, making climbing experiences like lead or outdoor more accessible to those who have never done it before. I mainly boulder but I believe I would’ve tried other forms of climbing earlier if I had access to the equipment, so I’d love to be able to help provide that to others and learn even more about gear!

To my loyal subjects and whomever else it may concern,

I live and breathe the Ass. Gear lifestyle.

While some people may unwind by listening to their favourite music, I find peace in the soft clinking of carabiners being clipped in. I may not be a gear expert but I'd love to learn and hopefully by the end of the year I will be able to untangle slings like a pro. I am excited to run for assistant gear sec because I'm obsessed with climbing and everything that comes with it. Having climbed for 2 years, it has already become such a big part of my life and the club has become much more than just a place to climb for me; it's an awesome community filled with great people. I want to be able to contribute more to the committee, understand how it all works behind the scenes, and help keep the gear organised and in good shape.

I'm looking forward to get to know more people in the club. If you want to come climbing I'm at the castle every Wednesday and Friday :)

...and make sure you drop that vote ;)

Thanks,

Tom

I'm running for assistant gear sec because UCLCMC has been the highlight of my uni experience and I want to give back to the club! I've been climbing off and on since I was around 16, but joining UCLCMC last year has been the favourite part of my climbing journey so far. It is such a fun way to keep active and meet so many amazing people in the process.

Although I'm not the most knowledgeable about gear, I am extremely eager to learn and help out our amazing gear sec Henry with as much as I can. I'm super personable, friendly, and always happy to lend a hand. It's also worth mentioning that I won 'honorary committee member' in Portland so I guess that speaks for itself :) Unfortunately 'pub sec' isn't a position yet, so ass gear it is!

yay plz vote for me <3 I love this club, I love the rest of committee ty bye

Hey I'm Iris!

Ethnically from China but I'm a home student. Born and raised in Sheffield - 🔥👍. I got into climbing around 2 years ago watching Magnus Mitboe videos, and had friends who were already really into climbing so it was easy for me to start. Being in Sheffield also made climbing pretty accessible to me so it got me hooked fast.

To be brutally honest, I'm not the biggest nerd on climbing gear but it wouldn't hurt to know more about grigris and ropes. However, I think i'd be good help to the committee as assistant gear sec as I've got a background of being quite organised. I'm also quite serious about the safety of myself and others, so I would check the ropes and devices regularly to ensure they're in good condition to use.

In summary, I just want to have a good time in the society and make sure everyones safe simultaneously. If someone else wants this position more I wouldn't be too distraught 🥲- just kidding.

Thanks,

Iris Xu.
