Hiya, I’m Sam and I’m currently your acting social sec.
The boat club gifted me so much more than a new sport, it has given me some of my closest friends and even a flat mate! Socials have been central to this and since it is truly the people that make the club, I'm very much hoping to keep socials going. As they say, happy squads = stronger quads! I’m qualified to help not only maintain, but grow our wonderful community and I hope that you have enjoyed this year's socials so far. :)
For those who don't know me yet, I was an active member of 3 sports societies in my first year, sticking with 2 now, so I have seen my fair share of socials. This means that I know what works and what does not. Additionally, having undertaken the role of social sec for a few months, I have expanded on my prior knowledge and am capable of organising and running socials effectively. I already have plans for the next few months for drinking and non-drinking socials, as well as, some exciting joint socials. We all know how daunting socials can be and I want to help make sure our socials are never a source of anxiety for you. Finally, in my opinion, most impressively, my ability to talk has gotten me in various predicaments, from sleeping in the sea, to not taking a tap because I was talking to a swan - I lack the gene that tells me me to shut up. So if nothing else, I promise good conversation.
Nads and I are only just getting started! (please let me do 'Ou et le poulet and go ice skating x)
Working as an industry liaison and studying at a legacy boarding school, I have realized that building relationships is one of my greatest strengths. Due to the exposure I’ve gotten, I've learnt that meeting new people and hosting memorable social events comes inherently to me, and I believe this will allow me to understand the existing dynamic of the already awesome Boat Club socials and take them to the next level.
“Did they even experience UCL student life if they never attended a Boat Club social?” As Social Secretary, my goal will be to make Boat Club socials so outstanding that non-rowers at UCL see the Social membership as a must-have.
As an Indian, I know that food tastes best when it’s given shape together. I suggest a new twist on curry night, where we cook together rather than just get food at a restaurant. Have you ever had chicken so tender it melts in your mouth? My grandmother’s chicken curry recipe is unbeatable by any standard in Central London, and that’s something I can guarantee our curry night socials could be: unbeatable and unforgettable.
Though I may be a newer face — I have been under the weather for a lot longer than one can imagine — I assure you that your trust in me for this role is not a gamble.
To making every Boat Club social legendary!
Hi everyone,
I'm Ratnesh, and I’m running for Social Secretary for the UCL Boat Club for 2024/25! I’d love the chance to bring a year filled with fun, inclusivity, and unforgettable memories. Socials have shaped my university experience, helping me build friendships and make countless memories, and I want to ensure the same for each of you, especially new members joining us for the first time.
My top priority is creating welcoming events where everyone feels at home. From pub nights to themed parties, each social will be planned to make it easy to meet new people, with a mix of interactive games and icebreakers. Additionally, I’ll work to expand our club’s social circle by collaborating with other societies. I’m eager to plan joint socials, adding variety and opportunities for everyone to bond.
I’m also passionate about making Boat Club events memorable. Varsity, tour, and alumni nights are all on my agenda, ensuring they’re not only fun but affordable and accessible to all. I’m here to take suggestions, so every member’s input shapes our social calendar.
With my experience planning events, I’ll make each social something to look forward to. I’ll be approachable, organized, and dedicated to ensuring our Boat Club socials are a highlight of your year. Thank you for considering me as your Social Secretary – let’s make 2024/25 one to remember!
