Rangina Taraki

My name is Rangina and I am a first year running for the role of Welfare Officer for the UCL Afghan Society for the remainder of the academic year. I joined the society at the start of the year, determined to build positive relationships with others in the society and learn more about my culture and heritage. Growing up, I had never found an established Afghan community however the UCL society has given me the privileged opportunity to feel a sense of belonging. This feeling has motivated me to apply for a committee position so I can give the same feelings of warmth to other individuals and incoming students.

As your welfare officer, I would efficiently provide a safe environment in all of our events to prioritise well-being and ensure that everyone is having an amazing time. This will allow us to enhance the Afghan community in UCL and welcome people of all different backgrounds into a supportive atmosphere. I have past experience of working in wellbeing and mental health especially within young adults and would accommodate for anyone who voices their concerns to me in a nurturing manner.

Having a sociable and amicable atmosphere in the events may take someone's mind off a bad day or a stressful assignment and for me, that is a significant accomplishment to lighten the burden off someone. Your vote for me to become Welfare Officer will better the positivity of the society, where I will make sure we have an amazing rest of the year together!
