Socailist students' primary aim is to build a mass student activist organisation to fight for students rights across the UK. Our principle campaign is for "Funding not Fees!", a national movement calling for an end to tution fees and student debt. We believe all students should be provided with maintance grants, not maintance loans to prevent young people from taking on life-long debts. Since 2012, socailist students has helped to organise meetings, demonstrations and walk-outs to this end. In 2024, socailist students became officially affiliated with the Trade Union and Socailist Coalition (TUSC). TUSC is an alliance between trade unions and the British Socailist Party. It stands in elections to provide a left-wing alternative to the centrist and right-wing dominated political mainstream. Regardless of said affiliation, socailist students welcomes members of any political party or student society into it's membership as long as they have a genuine interest in our ideas and activities. We are committed to building a broad student-led movement and to do that we need everyone we can get!
As a part of building said broad left- we are committed to collaborating with any willing society on issues of shared interest. If your society is interested in participating in a joint campaign or activity with socailist students, please email or direct-message us and we'll see if we can get involved! We further recognise that many young people feel politically alienated and are therefore committed to making politics more welcoming and accessable. If you're curious about our ideas but aren't sure if you'd like to become a member, please come to one of our socials. You can find our next social on the "What's on?" page of of Student Union website.
