Welcome to the MDs Comedy Revue, the oldest student revue in the country! We consist of a friendly group of medical students who perform a variety of original comedic sketches and songs, and are comprised of a cast, band and technical crew, all of which are essential to our shows:

Cast

The MDs cast writes, directs, and performs the sketches and songs in our shows throughout the year. These include our annual Christmas show, the United Hospitals Comedy Revue to compete for the title of the funniest London-based medical comedy society, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and numerous other events. We also create videography sketches, which you can view on our YouTube channel. No prior experience is required, so just take the plunge and come to an audition!

Band

‘The Ectopic Beats’ are the MDs in-house band, and performs alongside the cast, tackling the challenging and varied repertoire of songs in our shows, including pop, rock and jazz. The Ectopic Beats also perform at gigs from time to time!

Technical Crew

Our technical crew is responsible for all the behind-the-scenes elements of the shows, managing sound, lighting, video, effects, rigging, and stage management, ensuring each of our performances are flawless and professional. Once again, no previous experience is required, so simply turn up to auditions to join the MDs family!

The MDs are all about family. Always looking out for each other and always about the laughs, come along and join us for good times to get you through medical school!

History

On New Year's Day 1898(-ish!), an intrepid group of medical students and doctors ventured onto the wards of the Middlesex Hospital to bring some festive cheer to those spending Christmas in hospital. Over the decades that followed the concerts were an annual tradition containing sketch, songs and stand-up. Continuing through the World Wars, the group became known as the Manic Depressives, later performing in the Edward Lewis Theatre of the Middlesex Medical School. Successful theatrical productions followed and after the medical schools of UCH and the Middlesex merged in 1987, The MDs moved to the West End at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Today, the MDs boast Edinburgh Fringe sell-out runs, a successful band ‘the Ectopic Beats’, a stalwart technical team and the accolade of ‘United Hospitals Champion’ for the funniest medical school in London, whilst continuing annual Christmas Shows where it all began, over a century ago.
