Why we're no longer hosting club nights this week

We have chosen not to host the End of Term Sports Night at Scala and the End of Term event at XOYO on Wednesday 15 December. The latest Government guidelines do allow nightclubs to remain open, however, after consulting with UCL’s public health experts, it’s clear that the risk of onward transmission beyond UCL as people return home for the winter break will be increased by attendance at events of this nature.

Club and society socials and activities, and events in our on-campus venues will continue to go ahead as planned. These events are considerably smaller with a reduced risk of a large-scale Covid outbreak and subsequent onward transmission. If you have purchased a ticket for an event before the end of term, but either can’t or don’t want to attend, we will refund your purchase without question.

We all want to enjoy and relax during the winter break, and where possible spend time with families and loved ones. We should all think carefully over the coming days about our own safety and the safety of those in our community due to the increased risk of contracting Covid. Isolating over the winter break, or worse, passing Covid on family and friends after returning home, is something we should work collectively to avoid by following the rules and staying safe.

In January, when the risk of onward transmission beyond UCL is reduced as people settle back into campus life, we expect to continue to deliver large-scale events of this nature in line with the latest Government guidelines. We’ll share updates on this early in the new year.

Keeping safe on campus

Campus is open and face-to-face teaching and research will continue. You can still access facilities and services on campus, including UCL Libraries and Support & Wellbeing. You must not come to campus if you are unwell or have been asked to self-isolate.

Please remember:

Find out more about the measures UCL has put in place and what you can do to help keep everyone safe on campus.
