Ciaran Davies, Rugby

I am the 1st XV Captain and play across the back row. I started playing rugby around 10 years ago playing for my local team in Rotherham and have played consistently since. My father's side of my family has a strong Welsh rugby heritage and I was seemingly the next in line to take the sport, and have loved playing since the beginning.

I was keen on playing for TeamUCL Rugby as soon as I began university and wanted to make a serious impact from the get-go. The 1st XV Captain at the time was also Welsh so I was also drawn into this team specifically. This team has the biggest Varsity event out of all the sports by far and is the constant Varsity headliner, and I have always wanted to perform on the biggest stage there is to offer.

Playing rugby at UCL has connected me with a lot of similar-minded guys across both the UK and other countries around the world and have had some great experiences with the boys and hope to depart the team this year on the ultimate high by winning Varsity as Captain.

The best part of Varsity is the big-stage feel you have before and during the game. It forces you to either sink or swim. This is where I am at my best.

I am looking forward to being on the Varsity pitch injury-free this year to truly give it everything I have. Last year, I came back from an injury 6 weeks early that resulted in an ankle rupture during the game, forcing my early exit. I am seeking a more personal revenge this year in terms of my own performance whilst continuing our Varsity winning streak.

KCL think they can beat UCL. UCL knows they can beat KCL. Prepare for history to repeat itself, as it always does.
