That’s a wrap on the UCL200 Active Minutes Challenge – and what a finish! Together, we smashed our target of 200,000 active minutes, reaching an incredible total of 240,178 minutes.

A big two weeks of movement and motivation

The Challenge brought together students and staff from across the university for two weeks of movement, motivation and community as part of UCL’s Bicentenary celebrations. Over the course of the Challenge, 356 of you logged an incredible 240,178 active minutes, demonstrating that every minute of movement could contribute towards a healthier and more active UCL community.

Designed to celebrate 200 years of UCL, the Challenge encouraged you to complete 200 active minutes between 20 July and 3 August, showing that physical activity didn’t have to mean running a marathon or spending hours in the gym. Whether it was walking to campus, attending a fitness class, cycling, swimming, playing sport or simply walking to the grocery store, every active minute counted.

From the very start, you embraced the opportunity to move more in ways that suited your own lifestyles and routines. Throughout the two weeks, the Community Leaderboard showcased our collective effort across UCL, allowing you to celebrate milestones, track your progress and contribute towards the university-wide total.

Moving together

Alongside individual activity, the Challenge also brought our community together through a range of organised events, giving you the opportunity to be active as a community while trying something new.

In collaboration with the UCL Hiking Club, participants enjoyed a beginner-friendly social walk through Hampstead Heath, taking in some of London’s best views while connecting with fellow students. Participants also got involved in beach volleyball, relaxed with yoga at the Grant Museum, enjoyed rowing in Regent’s Park and took part in Project Active’s regular Pay and Play sessions. There was something for everyone.

Every minute made a difference

The UCL200 Active Minutes Challenge reflected Project Active’s commitment to making physical activity accessible, enjoyable and inclusive for everyone. By encouraging small, achievable changes, the Challenge showed that building movement into everyday life could have a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing.

As the Challenge came to a close, the collective achievements of the UCL community highlighted the power of moving together. Whether participants reached 200 minutes, exceeded their personal target or simply became more active than they were before, every contribution helped create a healthier and more connected community.
