What is SusCo, and why are we launching it?
The UCL Students' Union Sustainability Council (SusCo) is being launched to foster collaboration and environmental action across our student community. It will provide a democratic space where students can raise and discuss environmental matters in monthly meetings.
SusCo will also work closely with Sustainable UCL to advocate for higher environmental standards in line with the 2025 UCL Sustainability Strategy. The council aligns with the Students' Union's mission to become a flagship for sustainability by embedding sustainability principles into all activities, minimising environmental impact, and empowering students to take meaningful action.
What will SusCo aim to do?
SusCo aims to create a space where our student community can actively engage in long-term action in key areas such as politics, banking, media, energy, and education to address the climate crisis and environmental change. It aims to not only influence our Union and wider University but also inspire broader environmental action beyond our community.
Monthly SusCo Meetings & Task Forces
SusCo will hold monthly meetings open to all students, providing a space to address environmental matters and discuss ongoing sustainability projects at the Union. In addition to these meetings, we are launching two student-led Task Forces to drive focused action: Banking Task Force and Political Task Force.
Banking Task Force
The Banking Task Force is leading a student-led campaign to raise awareness of how high street banks fund the fossil fuel industry. Through panels and workshops, we educate students and provide the tools to make informed banking choices.

Political Task Force
The Political Task Force is working to connect sustainability councils and student groups across UK universities. By building a united front, we aim to amplify student voices, influence university environmental policies, and push for stronger sustainability standards.
