Written by Deborah Alawode, Medical Student   Hi! I’m Deborah Alawode, a Medical Student currently taking 3 years out of my Medical degree to do a PhD in Alzheimer’s Disease, and my sport is Olympic Weightlifting.   [VIDEO::https://youtu.be/DlAaHfQqHCE]   I was first introduced to Weightlifting when my coach ran a 6-week taster course at my High School. 6.5 years later, I’ve now won various medals and British titles, my most recent being British U23 Women’s under 71kg Gold Medallist. I also hold all 3 British U23 records for my weight category and I am a member of the Great Britain talent squad.   I absolutely love Weightlifting because it encourages me to push through both physical and mental barriers. I really enjoy the competitive aspect of the sport, not only competing against other people, but particularly competing against myself to improve my technique and to beat previous personal bests. Despite being an individual sport, the team aspect to it is part of what makes it so enjoyable.
Even the toughest training sessions are made easier when you have teammates alongside you to egg you on and to push you through.
