Everything you need to know about the General Election Find out more

We're shocked by recent events in Iran. Particularly by the latest violence at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology where, local media reported, riot police confronted hundreds of protesting students, with officers using teargas and paintball guns and carrying non-lethal steel pellet guns.

Students in Iran have been leading anti-government protests in response to the death of a young woman in police custody in mid-September. The protests have spread around the country at various levels of intensity, causing major disruption and retaliation from the Iranian government.

We've been working closely with UCL to make sure students directly impacted can access the support they need.

Support for students

To support you emotionally, UCL offers a dedicated Psychological First Aid (PFA) service. The service is a collaboration between Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW), the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PALS), and the University Clinic.  To access this service, or to find out more about it, please arrange to speak to your SSW Student Adviser.

Ongoing Work

UCL is a global university, with a high proportion of international students, those with dual nationality, and those who are domiciled abroad. Some of you may be impacted by events in your home country or region, such as war, conflict, unrest and natural disaster. These events can be highly distressing, even if you are not physically present yourself. Instead, simply the awareness of the distressing events and human suffering happening at home can be traumatic, especially when the lives and safety of loved-ones may be at risk.

Over the past two years, we've seen shocking events in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Lebanon, all of which have affected our students in different ways. Welfare and Community Officer, Umair, has been working closely with UCL to make sure the university is always prepared to respond to international disasters and can effectively support students that are affected.
