Yesterday evening, your Postgraduate Officer, Darcy Lan, attended "Global talent, frontier growth: international students powering London’s tech future", an event hosted by London Higher. The discussion focused on recent proposals in the government’s Immigration White Paper and how universities can better support international students into employment, particularly in the UK’s fast-growing tech sector.
Darcy Lan, who represented Students’ Union UCL and the Russell Group Students’ Unions (RGSU), contributed to the conversation. During the Q&A, Darcy highlighted the proactive work the Union is doing to support international students in finding employment following graduation and giving voice to the challenges international students face.
After the event, Darcy met with Lord Bilimoria, Co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for International Students. They discussed the Russell Group Students' Unions (RGSU) recent report on the international student experience and how RGSU can play a bigger role in influencing national policy. With international students contributing significantly to both our university community and the wider economy, ensuring they are supported through graduation and beyond is more important than ever.
This event was a valuable opportunity to connect with sector leaders, raise student concerns, and share the work we’re proud to be leading here at Students' Union UCL.
Darcy, your Postgraduate Officer, remarked:
Internationalism is what makes us such a phenomenal global university, and I’m passionate about ensuring that international students feel heard, supported, and represented. Whether it's through sector-level advocacy or national policy discussions, I’m committed to championing their voices and helping shape an inclusive and welcoming environment for all
