The Sabbatical Officer team is completely shocked and appalled by a new video showing SSEES Director, Richard Mole, pushing a female student and using sexist and misogynistic language. Thank you to everyone in our community who has raised this with us over the past few days, we feel your anger. We condemn his actions in the strongest possible terms, what has happened is totally unacceptable.
We have written to UCL to urge them to reopen their investigation of the November 2024 incident considering this new video.
Women should feel safe on campus, and seeing a member of staff in a position of power treat a student in this way has understandably shaken students’ trust in our institution. We’re worried about the impact this incident, and the video circulating widely on social media, will have on Muslim women in particular, many of whom have reported a rise of Islamophobia on campus to us. We are speaking with student leaders in our Muslim community and hope to bring a further update on tangible actions to tackle Islamophobia in the very near future.
We are here to help you. If you’ve been affected by this incident, or any other, please reach out to us.
