The Government have announced an increase to the Home student tuition fee by £285 to £9,535 per year and an increase in maintenance loans from September 2025.
Students' Union UCL President, Goksu Danaci, said:
“Historic below-inflation increases have eroded the value of maintenance loans and students have urgently needed these to increase to meet cost of living pressures. So far this year we've seen our highest level of demand for our financial support funds.
Whilst we welcome the news that maintenance loans available to students will increase in line with inflation from next year, today’s announcement feels like a sticking plaster for the sector. Alongside students’ unions across the Russell Group, we urge the Government to listen to students and reform higher education funding, increasing public investment in HE and reducing student fees in the long term. We are ready to start this conversation with Government as soon as possible."
