If you're a young adult carer juggles their degree alongside caring for a family member or friend, then we want to hear from you.
Young adult carers are young people aged 16–25 who care, unpaid, for a family member or friend with an illness or disability, mental health condition or an addiction. You may provide a range of support including emotional support, personal care, physical care, financial management, and practical tasks such as helping someone with their medication.
Why?
Your experiences matter. We’re teaming up with UCL's Department of Epidemiology & Public Health to create change and better understand your experiences and the challenges that you face at UCL.
Did you know that, according to the 2021 census, over 70,000 young people aged 18-24 provide unpaid care? The impact is significant - from financial hurdles to mental health strains. However, little is currently known about the experience of young adult carers at UCL.
How you can get involved
We're inviting you to be a part of our Listening Rooms – casual chats with friends that last about 30-45 minutes.
The Listening Room methodology is similar to focus groups, but there is no researcher present, and you are only with people you know. Our hope is that this will create a safe space for you to share your unique journey and help us understand the challenges you face.
Date: Thursday 23rd November 2023
Time: Multiple slots available between 2:45pm and 6pm
Location: 2nd floor of 25 Gordon Street
To compensate you for your time, you'll receive a £30 voucher.
If you have any questions, please contact Meg Haskins, Policy and Research Manager at Students’ Union UCL ([email protected]). She will be more than happy to answer any questions that you have.
