We spoke to some of the players from this year's London Varsity Series. Come and support Jemima, Clara, Lucy and Alex from Friday 6 March to Friday 13 March.

I’m Clara and I’m currently in my fourth year in my Biochemistry MSci. At the end of this year I will have fenced for UCL for all four years of my degree, and have been both the Women's Seconds Captain and Social Secretary during my time as part of the club. Given my positive experiences as part of TeamUCL I decided last year to run for Sports Officer, which is a role that I have now taken on. It has been hugely enjoyable acting as a representative of the diverse sporting body at UCL and aiming to drive positive change within the community. I have been fencing on and off since I was 10 years old, and have loved getting back into the sport at university and becoming friends with a whole set of amazing people I would never have otherwise met!

I’m Lucy and I am currently in my second year studying Biological Sciences. I am also a co-captain for UCL Women’s Football first team and play centre back. I had played football since I was 6 but quit when I was 15, when I came to UCL I decided to get back into it so joined UCLWFC. It is honestly one of the best decisions I have made, I have had a fantastic time playing football again and have made some amazing friends. The club is a group of friendly and inclusive people that have honestly become my second family. For anyone who isn’t part of a sport society I would definitely recommend joining one, it provides an opportunity to escape from uni stress and is a great way to socialise. I obviously recommend joining UCLWFC even if you haven’t played before, we have four teams catering to all levels so we welcome everybody!

I’m Alex Sells, a 2nd year physics undergrad, secretary and first team fencer at the UCL fencing club. Being a member of team UCL keeps me motivated to train as everyone is hugely driven to win. The away matches have been amazing experiences win or lose, and the standard of the competitions is high, making them worthwhile. I have been fencing for around 12 years, and it has been great to become immersed in a group with similar interests. I’ve been able to meet some brilliant athletes and amazing people through training, matches and socials.

I’m Jemima and I’m a third year BSc Human Sciences student. This season I also have the pleasure of being the captain of Women’s Football 1st team. We have a brilliant squad, with lots of new faces and skill sets. Our club is a very inclusive and encouraging environment, so although being on the committee can be a lot of time and effort, it’s so worth it. In March we will be looking to get our fifth Varsity win in a row and would love your support!
