We’re always looking for new and better ways to represent students at UCL. In 2019, our Democracy Review led to a new way for you to submit ideas for change, made our elected officers more accountable, and made the Union’s democracy more accessible. Now we want your help in reviewing the roles and responsibilities of your elected representatives.

Each year in March you elect seven students to work full-time as Sabbatical Officers, and lots more students to work voluntarily as Part-time Officers. These students represent your views on (amongst other things) education, welfare, LGBT rights and sustainability. They represent Postgrads, Women, BME students, international students, disabled students, and many more. They help to make decisions big and small, and they have a real say on how you experience life at UCL.

We want to make sure that we’ve got the right number of elected students representing you and that they have the right roles and responsibilities.

We’re working with external research consultancy, MiraGold, to assist with this review, and we want your input. There’s no pre-determined outlook for what a future officer team might look like, and any changes made will be evidence-based and consultative - you really can shape future of representation at UCL.

Once this review is complete, new or adapted roles will be up for election during the Leadership Race in March 2021.
