Last week we sent out a list of all the ideas being discussed at the upcoming Zone Meetings. At this point, those ideas are NOT Union policies, they're just student ideas.
There are lots of ways for you to make change at UCL, and we’re constantly trying to make it easier. This is your Union and your University – it should be what you want it to be and do what you want it to do.
This year we launched our newly improved democratic structure – our Policy Zones. These policy zones cover three areas of student life; Welfare and Community, Activities and Education. We want you to come together and discuss the issues that matter to you.
Any student can put forward an idea for discussion, and the relevant Zone meeting will debate, discuss and decide what to do next. What to do next could include anything from more funding for clubs and societies to better facilities for Trans students.
Last week we announced all the ideas going forward to be discussed at this week’s meetings. You can read about them here.
How this works:
1. The first step to making your idea happen is to submit for debate at a Zone meeting.
2. At the Zone meeting, other students will have the chance to voice their thoughts on your idea and suggest changes. The elected students in the Zone meeting will then vote to approve or reject your idea.
3. If your idea is passed in the Zone meeting, it’s goes for its final approval at the Union’s Executive Meeting. At this point, we’ll make sure the idea is deliverable and something the Union can legally do. There may be a few more amendments at this stage.
After that, the Union and its elected officers will set about making it happen.
You can submit your own idea and find out more about Zone meetings here.
