Written by Zoe Dahse, History & Spanish BA
Hey, I’m Zoe! I’m a 3rd year student studying History with Spanish. Mully’s Karaoke was my first love at UCL – it’s one of my earliest memories of Freshers’ and an event I continuously go back to simply because it’s so fun. It’s held every Saturday night in Richard Mully’s basement bar, and serves as UCL’s resident underground micro-club. Good tunes and a good time with friends are (sometimes) all you need to let loose after a hectic week at uni. Even after three years I keep coming back to it.
Whether you’re a Saturday night regular or an occasional attendee, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.

Go to karaoke song? Radioactive, Imagine Dragons. Childhood nostalgia and an energy lift all together – it’ll bring the house down every single time.
Here’s a rundown of how to make the most of the night:
Get in the queue early-ish
Trust me on this one – sometimes you can find yourself queuing for a long long time, and autumnal nights in London can be chilly, so get there around 9:30/10. The night finishes at 1:30 so that gives you plenty of time to dance to your heart’s content.
The drinks are cheap
Get drunk (or don't) but there's a 3-4-2 offer on bottles and cans from 20:00 until close. Remember to bring both your student ID and some official ID (e.g. driving licence) to gain entry! And of course, alcohol is never a requirement to have a good time - so there's plenty of non-alcoholic drinks available too.

Get up there
Get over your fear of performing and GET UP THERE. You’re not going to regret it – but do be sure to choose a song everyone is familiar with (and you are too). There’s nothing worse than a crowd that’s not into it, or you looking at the screen after the verse because you’ve forgotten what’s next. Classic songs are always a safe option – such as… Don’t Stop Me Now, Queen.
Calling all Swifties
If you’re a Swiftie like I am (absolutely no shame – she’s phenomenal!!!!), Taylor Swift Soc also holds a Taylor Swift themed karaoke night once a month on Fridays in Phineas. Be sure not to miss out on any updates through their Instagram: ucl_tss.

Let your hair down
Most importantly, have fun. Let your hair down. It’s what you’re there for! And come back the next week, if you can.
