In my first year of uni, I played Ultimate with UCL Frisbee which culminated in our Varsity match against King’s, in March, just before the first lockdown.

Thankfully this didn’t set the tone for this year and we were able to get plenty of practice, much of it in the wind and rain, even if things may have been a bit more limited than previous years. We had to adapt by organising 1-1 throwing practices, holding in-person training when it was allowed, and taking opportunities to play matches in Term 3.

With almost all of the socials this year being online, we tried to make them as fun as possible, because everyone was sick of Zoom. We held scavenger hunts, a mixology social, a live murder mystery, crafts socials and more - all to build a sense of community around our Club. Over lockdown we were also able to support our local communities, by writing letters to the elderly in care homes over Christmas and later volunteering weekly at a food bank and soup kitchen.

Throughout the year, we’ve done our best to help our members improve their skills and fitness, while having fun and making friends. I'd try and help out as much as possible - reaching out to members of the club, especially freshers, to throw with them. We also tried to do our bit in helping out the wider community.

Despite only having 5 out of 9 committee positions filled at the start of the year (with a lot of worries, uncertainty, and unanswered questions), we’re very proud of all we managed to achieve, especially earning a spot on the shortlist of Club of the Year.
