Juggling academics and a part-time job is more common than you think, and many students at UCL work alongside their studies. With the price of living in London ever increasing, you might find yourself hunting for ways to make extra cash - or maybe you're just looking to fill out your CV.
Here's a few of the most common part-time jobs that students have while at University...
Union outlets
Fun, flexible and close to campus - working out our outlets has to be one of the best student jobs around. All of our cafes and bars, as well as our gym and our shop are staffed by students. We also occasionally have other opportunities for content creators, administrative assistants and more (keep an eye on JobShop for those).
All of our students are paid London Living Wage. You'll also be working alongside other UCL students, so you'll make friends quickly. Sound good? Keep an eye on Jobshop for our latest opportunities.
Customer service jobs
For many students, working in customer service is a write of passage. Whether you're working in a bar, a restaurant or a clothes store, London is absolutely bursting with places to bag a part-time role.
Whilst on the surface working in customer service might just be a way to get through uni, these jobs are full of transferable skills which will impress future employers. It's also a great way to meet people outside of UCL, and you might even get a cheeky discount by working there.
Student Ambassador
More and more brands are hiring student ambassadors, usually over the summer or at the start of term.
As a student ambassador, you'll be helping to promote a brand within your campus community - we've seen some students given thousands of samples to give away. These roles are very flexible, and they're always extra keen to hire people involved in clubs and societies.
We'll often promote these opportunities on our Jobshop, but why not get in touch with your favourite brands and see if they're on the lookout for student ambassadors?
Childcare
If you've got experience looking after a younger sibling, why not make some money as a childminder? Places like Koru Kids are always looking for students to work with families for as little as 3 hours per week. The good thing about this job is there will be more hours in school holidays, which will fit well around your timetable.
Tutoring
You've made it to UCL, so you must be pretty smart. Tutoring is a great flexible way to make money, with most tutoring opportunities being online only. MyTutor & Tutorful are good places to start looking for opportunities.
Do you speak more than one language? There are loads of opportunities for language tutoring, so definitely consider taking a look at these.
