What's it like being trans at UCL?
Hear from incredible students and staff about their experience of being trans at UCL. They talk about everything from what it means to be trans to them, challenges they face, what it means to feel safe and accepted, what changes are needed and what support and advocacy there should be, what it's like to be in London and what trans joy looks like.
Why did UCL make this video?
In April 2023, the UCL LGBTQ+ Equalities Implementation Group (LEIG) announced a fund to help students and staff with projects that make UCL a more inclusive place for its LGBTQ+ community.
Upon hearing about this opportunity, a project team formed, including a postgraduate trans student, a trans UCL alumna, and a staff colleague. They submitted a proposal to develop a video focusing on trans awareness for UCL students and staff, with guidance from the Students' Union Equity and Inclusion Officer.
The video was a joint effort involving trans students, the Students’ Union and UCL staff, and with the support of the Educational Media Support team at UCL’s Information Services Department.
The main goal of the project is to enhance UCL's support and inclusivity for trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students. The video aims to do this by sharing stories, talking about the support available at UCL, and encouraging advocacy among the UCL community of staff and students.
