Hear from Tommy about his experiences with All Jokes Aside sessions

We spoke to students to find out what they enjoyed about the All Jokes Aside campaign. You can find out more about the campaign, and all sessions and events, on the campaign page.

What’s your name, and what are you studying?

I'm studying for a PhD in Human Geography!

Where did you see the All Jokes Aside campaign, and why did you sign up to sessions?

I saw this campaign being advertised on the Student's Union website. I was looking for more slow-paced events taking place on campus and I thought I'd like to try a Walk and Talk session!

What did you enjoy? What made you keep coming back?

I really enjoyed walking around Bloomsbury's green spaces with the group, and these sessions are run regularly throughout term time so it's quite easy to keep checking in.

Have you noticed any impact on your wellbeing?

Yes, my research subject can be quite difficult at times, so these walks have been a huge help in taking my mind off things.

What would you say to other male UCL students about All Jokes Aside?

I think this is a really wonderful campaign being run at UCL and it's a good chance to get to know other students on campus. Going out for walks or playing sports together is a great way of looking after yourself while you're studying.
