As your Union, one of our most important jobs is representing your academic interests and making sure you can influence the way UCL works.  The best way for us to do this is by working with Academic Reps in every UCL Department.

Each month, we’re featuring your reps and the work they’re doing to make UCL better. If you have an idea about how to make your course, your department or UCL work better, you can contact your own Academic Rep using our Find Your Rep page.

March’s Reps of the Month are José Leon Rojas & Alice Accorroni, Postgraduate (taught) Student Representatives in the Institute of Neurology, who were able to organise student-led tutorials and who are working on a series of short videos around the student experience like how to find a research project!

"The MSc in Advanced Neuroimaging covers both the clinical and physics aspects of neuroradiology. From meeting the students on the first week of the course, it became apparent that our cohort had different undergraduate backgrounds (e.g. engineering, medicine, neuroscience) and that we were also a very international group. When we were elected as representatives, it became our main priority to support the cultural and academic needs of our peers. We organised student-led tutorials to go over content covered in our lectures, and we encouraged students who were strong in certain topics to lead discussion in their areas of expertise. We had a high turn-out rate for these sessions and received positive feedback on these tutorials, both as an exercise to integrate with fellow students but also as a revision tool. We also organised dinners at different spots around London to encourage students to get to know the city they had moved to. Moving forward into term two we hope to continue with our small group tutorials and social events. We are also now involved in creating short videos on the students experiences (eg. on how to look for a Research Project) in order to help the 2019/2020 Advanced Neuroimaging class."
