Life at UCL is exciting, but it can be challenging, and sometimes overwhelming, but don't worry. You don't have to face it alone. The Students' Union Advice Service is free, confidential, independent and available both in person and online. Our trained advisors will talk to you about anything, from housing, academia and exams, to money, budgeting, and employment.
Support over the Winter Break
Our Advice Service will be closed from 16:00 on Friday 19th December 2025 to 10:00 on Monday 5th January 2026 for the Winter Break.
In the week 15th-19th December we will only schedule appointments and provide detailed email advice for time-sensitive queries. For non-urgent matters, we will signpost you to a relevant service or get in touch with you after re-opening of the service on 5th January.
Please note, our Emergency Fund and Sarah Douglas Hardship Fund contact form will close on the 12th of December. All Sarah Douglas Hardship Fund contact forms will be reviewed after re-opening. Emergency Grant applications will continue to be reviewed before the closure.
If you would like to contact us whilst we are closed, please complete our online contact form. We will respond to your enquiry once we reopen on Monday 5th January.
We've put together a list of frequently asked questions, and services (with their contact details) that are available over the closure period; all are generally free to use: Support over the Break. We hope these are helpful if you need any support or advice during this time.
How can we help?
Our trained and experienced team can give you advice about:
- Academic Advice - including extenuating circumstances, academic misconduct and the support to study framework
- UCL Complaints and Disciplinaries - Our service is independent from the University, which means you can freely discuss your academic concerns, and we’ll only share what you are happy for us to share.
- Housing and Accomodation - We cannot find housing for you, but we can provide advice and support you with tenancy contract checks and disputes.
- Financial Support and Budgeting - including income maximisation, money management and hardship funds
- Employment Rights - including unpaid wages and part-time employment contracts
- Looking for supplies? We supply free condoms, pregnancy tests, and period products for students in need. Just pop up to the Advice Service to collect them.
Who can use our service?
We offer advice to all students currently registered at UCL, across all UCL sites (including UCL East). Our service is also available to:
- prospective students who hold an offer for a UCL programme of study
- recent graduates where there is an ongoing matter relating to their studies, for example a student complaint or disciplinary issue
- students on interruption of studies with matters relating to their studies, for example returning to study and support to study
