First up, what’s the Community Research Initiative?

Well, hello there! We act as a bridge between the university and voluntary sector, which includes charities, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises. One of the favourite parts of our work is helping Master’s students to carry out collaborative dissertation projects, which actually bring about positive change. Instead of your research lying dormant on your hard drive for years, we’ll help you transform your research into something that will genuinely have an impact.

How do we do this? Well, we find out what you’re passionate about and help match you with a charity or community partner (i.e. this event). We support you as you collaborate throughout the year on your dissertation and then help you to share the findings in an accessible format so your work can leave a legacy. And we host career superchargers, skill-building workshops and other events throughout the year - just like this one!

So what’s this event all about?

Think of this matchmaking event as your chance to meet incredible charities all in one room. Find out how they’re having an impact here in London and the types of of research project they’d love to collaborate with you on. It’s the only event of its kind where so many of our friends in the community come together in one room. Think of it as networking – but without the awkwardness!

So what will I get out of it?
  • Meet potential community partners.
  • Explore dissertation ideas based on real-world challenges.
  • Learn how your research could contribute to positive social change.
  • Build connections with organisations working on issues you care about.
  • Find inspiration for a dissertation that leaves a lasting legacy
I’m interested in coming along, but don’t have anyone to attend with. Does that matter?

Our friendly team will be here to make sure that you feel welcome and comfortable at our event. We're biased but we believe that the CRIS community creates some of the most welcoming spaces at UCL. If you still have questions or worries about the event, email our friendly team and we can answer your questions!
