When you think of Brazil, what comes to mind? The vibrant rhythms of samba, the excitement of Carnival, legendary football, or the stunning beaches of Rio de Janeiro?

But behind these colourful images lies a far more complex and often overlooked history.

Join the UCL World History Society for a screening of Brazil – An Inconvenient History, a documentary that explores the darker chapters of Brazil's past.

From Portuguese colonial rule to the transatlantic slave trade, the documentary examines how colonialism, slavery, and racial inequality shaped Brazil and continue to influence its society today.

History isn't just about understanding the past — it's about questioning how the past shapes our present.

After the screening, we'll have an open discussion to share thoughts and explore questions surrounding colonialism, historical narratives, and their lasting legacies.

This event is open to members of Students’ Union UCL World History Society only. Attendees must hold a valid World History Society membership and book a free ticket in advance.

Come along for an afternoon of film, history, and thought-provoking conversation.

We look forward to seeing you there!
