The first-ever Specialty Fair by UCL Surgical Society - a hands-on evening that brings 17 surgical specialties under one roof. Try real skills on models/simulators, meet the subcommittee chairs, discover upcoming initiatives & opportunities, and find your place in our community for the year ahead.
Event Outline:
Arrive at 5:30 p.m. sharp for registration. Upon entry, you will receive a stamp card and be directed to a starting station. Complete six stations to claim a merch reward. Food and networking will follow from 8:15 pm.
What’s on offer?
- General Surgery, try laparoscopic simulation (on actual lap boxes) with a bead-stacking challenge
- Cardiothoracic Surgery, attempt to repair a ruptured heart wall on actual bleeding heart
- Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), practise otoscopy, foreign body retrieval, and choose basic airway adjuncts on a manikin
- Neurology and Neurosurgery, experience EEG recording, reading EEG traces, and learn a rapid cranial nerve examination
- Ophthalmology, practise fundoscopy and attempt capsulorhexis (cataract surgery) on training models
- Paediatric Surgery, attempt laparoscopic simulation (on actual lap boxes) and learn paediatric BLS
- Plastic Surgery & MaxFax (OMFS), practice deep wound management on high fidelity models, learn about nerve blocks and practise suturing on face models
- Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O), solve a quick case and fix/plate a radius fracture on bone models
- Transplant Surgery, stitch an end-to-end vascular anastomosis
- Vascular Surgery, perform venepuncture and IV injection on models
- Clinical/Surgical Skills, incise and drain a cyst/abscess
- Women in Surgery, Academic Surgery and Global Surgery, practice basic suturing, try a global surgery quiz, and attempt a pipette accuracy game
- Obstetrics/Gynaecology & Foetal Surgery, learn physical (internal) examinations and practice IUD insertion on models
- Urology, perform punch biopsies, refine examination techniques on a manikin and learn about clinical scenarios

Who should attend
Open to all UCL students with an interest in clinical skills and/or surgery. No prior experience is required.
