In many conflicts around the world, short-term humanitarian response becomes the long-term reality. But funding cycles, mandates, and institutions often still operate as if the crisis is temporary.

This event asks: what needs to change?

Using health systems as a starting point, we'll explore what localisation really looks like in practice, how power shifts (or doesn’t) in long-running crises, and what it means to move beyond repeated emergency response toward something more sustainable.

Hear from our amazing panel of speakers:

  • Randolph Kent – Director of the Humanitarian Futures initiative and Visiting Professor at King’s College London, specialising in future challenges facing humanitarian action.
  • Kate Hart – Independent humanitarian consultant and leadership coach, bringing 30 years of senior experience across the UN, DFID, INGOs and the Red Cross/Red Crescent.
  • Gareth Owen – Former Humanitarian Director at Save the Children UK (2007–2024) and co-founder of major sector initiatives including the START Network and Humanitarian Leadership Academy.

This event is open to all UCL students and staff. Book your free spot now while tickets last!
