Come join us on a seminar hosted by GeogSoc, with our speaker being our post-grad Geographer Alex Skene-Chulde, who will talk about "Causes and Implications of Humanity's ever Increasing Environmental Footprint".
Here's the abstract...
An exploration and discussion concerning the various ways scholars have come to understand humanity's aggregate impact on planet Earth. For some, the cause of humanity's expansion of resource and energy use lie within culture and ideology. Some contend that current attitudes towards the Earth and its resources can only spell doom. For others, the threats posed by climate change, resource depletion and environmental pollution are perceived to result from technical and policy failures: with good governance and a healthy dash of innovation, humanity should be able avert the worst. This presentation will describe some of the core ideas within each body of thinking, as well as ideas from outside the binary positions posed above. The implications of the considerations outlined above are significant and yet should be qualified. It is hoped that the attendees will take part in critiquing and discussing the ideas presented during the presentation.
See you there...
