The NHS accounts for 4% of the UK’s total emissions and spends over £600 million annually on electricity. Yet, despite being the first health system to make a legally binding net zero commitment, its transition remains constrained by political, financial, and infrastructural barriers. We’ll explore why progress has stalled and examine the economic and policy pathways that could help unlock decarbonisation.
We have the pleasure to receive Alan Salazar Guerra, a UCL master student in Climate Politics and Policy, who will give us a talk about the topic of his dissertation: The Challenges for NHS England to Achieve Net Zero Energy Consumption.
A collaboration between the Climate Action Society and UCL Health Policy and Managment Society.
