Your Role
You will be a full time Sabbatical Officer of the Students’ Union working full time to provide leadership to the Students’ Union’s services; and representing the interests of students to UCL, including participating in UCL committees and regular meetings with senior staff.
You will lead on all issues relating to welfare, wellbeing and housing for Members ensuring that the Union promotes their mental, physical and social wellbeing. You will lead on the Union’s community relations and initiatives to enable students to make a positive contribution to the local community and that local public services meet students’ needs. You will represent students’ interests regarding welfare, housing and community relations to UCL and beyond.
General Responsibilities
- Shall be collectively responsible for the strategic leadership of the Union.
- Shall work full-time and represent the interests of students to UCL, including participating in UCL committees and regular meetings with senior UCL staff.
- Shall meet regularly with the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to discuss the strategy, operation, and management of the Union.
- Shall serve as Sabbatical Trustees on the Board of Trustees.
- Shall ensure the Union is ethical, environmental, and sustainable.
- Shall share the responsibilities of communicating with the Membership, keeping all Members informed about the work of the Sabbatical Officer Team and the Union’s services for Members.
- Shall be accountable to students and keep all students informed of their work on behalf of the Union’s members.
- Shall fulfil their roles as outlined in the role descriptions and to support, where appropriate, other student officers and representatives in the fulfilment of their roles.
- Shall act as the spokesperson for the Union.
- Act as ambassadors for the UCL student community
- Shall lead on the implementation of Union policies relevant to their role.

- Represent students within the Union and contribute to Union strategy in the following areas:
- Advice Service.
- Student wellbeing.
- Project Active.
- Chair of Welfare and Community Zone.
- Local Community Relations.
- Supporting Student Communities and Networks – Mature and Part Time Students, Students with Caring Responsibilities, International Students’ Network.
- Shall regularly meet with and support the work of the Mature & Part Time Students’ Officer, Officer for Students with Caring Responsibilities, Accommodation & Housing Officer, International Students’ Officer, Disabled Students’ Officer, and hall representatives.

Time Required For Role
This is a full-time role over a 12.5 month period, from 1 July 2024 – 15 July 2025.
36.5 hours per week plus a range of additional events.
The role involves some evening and weekend work, and is based in London, UK.
Salary: £30,138 including 27 days holiday. Please note this will rise in line with the cost of living increase from summer 2024.
