Frames Of Mind is a charitable participatory arts organisation based in Newham, East London, established by Zoe Flynn and Bo Chapman in 2019. We deliver stop frame animation, film and digital arts programmes to support the health and wellbeing of participants, offering unique opportunities to learn new skills, whilst engaging in meaningful creative processes.

Frames Of Mind work collaboratively with partner organisations to reach isolated and vulnerable communities, families living with dementia in the community and care settings, care professionals and people experiencing mental ill health.

Frames of Mind has evolved from our established participatory arts organisation Salmagundi Films, into a separate charitable company, in order to focus on arts health and wellbeing. We are working towards becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation to access broader funding streams enabling us to support more of our beneficiaries.

We believe empowerment and affirmation of self are fundamental to wellbeing.

Mental health & wellbeing

For people experiencing mental ill health, engaging in creative activities can be therapeutic. It allows us to express ourselves without words, process complex emotions, and helps to promote recovery.

As an artist led organisation Frames Of Mind share a deep understanding of how creativity and the act of creative decision making is fundamental to who we are. We know that artistic expression boosts self-esteem, building the resilience to help maintain wellbeing.

Frames of Mind work alongside adult social care providers, health trusts, specialist agencies, schools and charities, to co-devise multi-media programmes and creative interventions, for their clients. We work to our participants strengths and interests, inviting them to steer projects organically.

Digital inclusion & heritage

Frames of Mind digital inclusion training programmes and creative heritage projects, champion the potential of smart technology to combat isolation and build enriched, connected resilient communities.

Smart devices are ubiquitous and we believe they are the perfect platform for intergenerational interaction and platform to challenge associated ageist stigma.

Frames Of Mind have a long-standing relationship with Newham Council who have provided us with a fleet of iPads to work with Communities across the borough, to record, celebrate and share their personal stories.

Preserving unique individual histories are an essential part of collective heritage, a shared sense of belonging which underpins our communities.

Dementia

We are committed to supporting the quality of life of families living with dementias, through our creative digital engagement programmes.

We have developed a resource of stimulating and meaningful activities, using stop frame animation, digital arts and sensory engagement as an empowering communication tool to improve the health and wellbeing of participants.

Our professional artists work to people’s strengths, never underestimating what is possible. Whether working with participants to animate a significant object or create a digital self-portrait, the aim of our approach is to enhance experience in the moment, through humour, sensitivity and immersive play.

All our projects are designed to support participants to maintain links with their skills and lived experiences.
