St Joseph's Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people living with terminal illness in the London boroughs of City & Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Newham. The Empowered Living Team (ELT) is a community volunteer project that trains and mentors volunteers to support terminally ill patients to live at home with a greater level of independence and better quality of life. Volunteers provide this support and empowerment by offering supervision of rehabilitation and exercise programmes, massage and relaxation, psychological support and befriending. The ELT aims to encourage and coach patients to achieve better self-management of their symptoms and therefore achieve better confidence in coping with their condition.
